114553 The Eighteenth of November It was inspired by the terrible fire at King's Cross underground station in London, hence the title. This was the catalyst - it started with one character, Fabriel - a maverick journalist but what else is he?

As is the way when you are writing Fabriel was joined by Alice and her baby. After the fire they both struggle to make sense of what is happening to them. Alice is convinced that Fabriel is an angel, much to his annoyance. He is haunted by terrible dreams and persued by a malevolent entity.

Set in and around King's Cross and St. Pancras stations in London, and in the Gothic splendour of the abandoned Midland Grand Hotel, it explores the idea that parallel universes can exist simulaniously with our own. I call it magic realism. Neither Goodreads nor Kindle allow that category so currently it is classed as urban and paranormal fantasy.

114553 Hello. I would also like to open a thread for my book but cannot find the 'Author's magical corner' referred to in an earlier post. My book is The Eighteenth of November and it's on Kindle. I am also seeking reviews - willing to reciprocate. I would also like to like the book to Amazon. Thanks for any help.

Thank you Orinoco Womble for the advice. I would really like to link my own book to my Amazon page. Do you have any advice (but if I am asking in the wrong place, please tell me.)

Hi Flo, this is a question. If I'm asking the wrong person, please say and I will ask elsewhere. I wanted to know how you get the book covers to show up the way they do. I can see the code above, but I don't have a clue where to put it and where to find the code for each book. Would love to know. I do find html a bit difficult, not so much understanding the > bits but where to put everything.

114553 I love the word 'Nevertheless'. It was my sister's favourite word. So now, whenever it's appropriate, I put it in when I'm writing my books. It reminds me of her.

As to 'hates'. When people say 'calm down' I want to hit them. It's so patronising and, well, uuuughh, aaaaarh!!!!

114553 Katherine, the advice above is very sound. It may, or may not, help for me to tell you that I have been writing for years. I only felt I was beginning to get the hang of it when I did and MA in writing where a condition of being awarded the MA was to write a publishable novel. I did so and as a result got an agent. It didn't easily fit a genre so publishers were not prepared to take a risk.

It is ten years since I finished that book. I published it a couple of weeks ago on Kindle. I am very proud of it and have had some great comments. However, not everyone will like it. You just have to keep going, learn what you can from the constructive criticism and ignore the rest.

I wrote a blog post recently with some suggestions about useful reading matter for writers. It's on my Author Profile, but here's the link to save you the bother of hunting for it - http://clodaghphelan.com/on-writing/c...

Hope that helps and good luck. Just don't give up but keep writing and practicing.
114553 I finished 'The Flight' a week or so ago and have just reviewed it. I was disappointed really. Am in the middle of reading Stoner, good but slow so I have just started The Gates by John Connolly. I have yet to read his detective books, but so far his 'other books' are splendid. I highly recommend ''The Book of Lost Things" and am finding 'The Gates' quite wonderful.

I tried to get the St Mary's book you recommended out of the library but they didn't have it anywhere in all the local libraries. Am currently reading the Book of Lost Things that was also a recommendation. Do you know a relatively easy way to remember who recommended a book to you on GR. Short of trawling through all your friend one by one and trying to find old messages? Or am I being dim. Hope you are well.

114553 Thanks Suze. That's really kind of you. I'm still getting to grips with the finer points of GRs. I have some rather tricky questions about reviewing and etiquette etc. Is there a way I can ask the questions privately so that no one but the administrators see them?
