A House Called Askival by Merryn Glover.

It has some of the best reviews I've seen on Amazon - and I totally loved it. So glad I picked it up, it's on promo for Kindle just now.

It's set in post Independence India, and it's so vividly described, I felt I learned a lot about that time period. A woman returns home after many years to tend to her missionary father and sees her hometown changed by Capitalism. It's so interesting, highly recommend it.
