1134017 I just finished yesterday and absolutely adored it this second time around. What did you think of the ending? I found it to be really bittersweet. Alfie and Finn going their separate ways is one of the reasons I am dying for the sequel.

Do you have any predictions for the sequel or anything you would like to see explored?

I finished chapter 30 yesterday and probably won't finish the book until after Christmas as I am trying to finish another book before this weekend.

My absolute favorite part was Luka's chapter when he is waiting for Alfie to show up and trying to be patient. That whole scene was hilarious. I also really liked seeing more banter between the characters as well. I would not have been able to remember all those words and would probably have made some kind of excuse and gotten caught >_<

Hmm, I haven't thought about why the dark magic affects Alfie like it does, but my best guess is that maybe he has too much light in him and so instead of thriving off the dark magic, it drains him.

I completely forgot that Ignacio somehow gets more evil when it's revealed he killed Finn's parents. This makes him even scarier in my eyes, the fact that he basically stalked her like she was a thing to possess. Makes me shudder.

I agree, I would probably label it upper YA like The Gilded Wolves. I always felt that those character read older. Oh my gosh, I did not connect that first scene with Finn to Ignacio. Aaahhh!

I loved this section so so much! I think we need more Latinx fantasy that acknowledges slavery and reading Castallan's story of enslavement and their fight for freedom is one of the reasons I love this book so much. Alfie really was in an impossible situation when it came to what was happening to Luka. I really can't blame him, especially because he is still grieving his brother. Losing someone else close to him would be unbearable.

I forgot just how terrifying Ignacio was! I think him being the one the magic possessed adds such an interesting layer with regard to Finn. I am so devastated for her. I would consider this one YA, but that's because I don't think publishing has properly made room for books to call themselves New Adult.

Yes, I am loving Finn so much with this reread! I already loved her, but I am paying special attention to her backstory. So much of who she is and the decisions she makes are a consequence of her past. I did not notice that her propio magic relied on touch, very interesting.

How can you not love that first real interaction between our leads? Forget a meet cute, we love a good fight scene.

1134017 I just finished week one's reading last night. Who else has read this week's portion? Which character are you drawn to? What do you think of the world-building so far? Anything that really stands out to you?
