Wow, I can't believe we're almost done with this readalong! How far has everyone gotten? I have a few questions for this weeks readingFor the most part, this book is FILLED with action packed scenes but we have seen a few light hearted scenes as well. What has been one of your favorite light hearted scenes?
Do you think you'd have been able to perform the ceremony for the nobleman?
Why do you think the dark magic drains Alfie when he uses his magic, yet seems to have no negative effect on Ignacio?
What was your reaction when it was revealed that Ignacio had a hand in the death of Finn's parents?

I understand why he did what he did. Although in my..."omg, I didn't realize it either! Ahhhh all these little details are making me enjoy this reread even more!
Yeah I wish they aged them up a bit. I remember when I first read this and when Finn was kidnapped and we were shown a decapitated head, I was not expecting that at all!
I think this is YA but I would have loved to have seen how this would have turned out if it New Adult was more accepted by publishers.I agree with Alicia, there aren't enough stories that talk about colonization and how heritages/languages have been erased because of it and this is one thing that really drew me into the story. While I was screaming (in my head) at Alfie for him to not do it, what other choice did he have? After losing his brother so soon, he couldn't bear the loss of losing another family member.
There was so much mentioning of Ignacio in previous chapters; I knew he was bound to make an appearance but the scene at the bar was absolutely terrifying! And with the dark magic magnifying his propio makes him all the more terrifying and such a good villain. But seeing Finn's reaction to him- Finn who is such a strong and somewhat fearless character- really shows how dangerous he is and this was before he had the dark magic within himself!
I'm currently on Chapter 4 so I'm a bit more behind than where I'd like to be. Finn is still a character that I still love and I'm finding with this reread, I'm able to pick up more details than when I first read it.With Finn's ability to change her appearance, I just now noticed that it's done with touch and when I've read books with characters that have this ability, it's normally done through thought alone.
The whole magic system and how color is such a big part of it fascinates me; I really want to try to understand more of how it works
The card game scene is one of my favorite scenes. A bit violent but Finn is A+. I feel like this being Finn and Alfie's first interaction really sets the tone for their dynamic together.
I know that both Finn and Alfie are the main characters but they really are some of my favorite characters. Yes, Finn is a badass and is a very sarcastic character but Alfie is just as sarcastic and has no problem being a smartass to Finn. And Alfie's love for his family is so nice to read and I love how you can tell how much his family cares for one another
