I'm glad you loved it! I'm going the audiobook route this time, so I'm glad to hear it's a good one! Feel free to join in the chat if you'd like. I know since you just read it last summer you likely aren't ready for a reread LOL

We will be starting our read of The Stand in a few days! I just wanted to let everyone know that for the discussion breakdown I am using this edition: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
I still did the breakdowns by chapter like I always do, but I figured I'd mention which edition I referenced because I know some older editions of this book are shorter. Hopefully it's not a problem for us lol. Anyway, I'm so excited to revisit this story with you all!

Ahhh I need to get my hands on it! I'm glad you loved it!

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death.
And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides or are chosen. A world in which good rides on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abigail and the worst nightmares of evil are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.
We start The Stand on August 1st :)

Moog was my favorite; he had me laughing so many times throughout the book. Like how during the battle at the end he pulls a wand out of his bag and says some words that scare the horde around them and causes them to retreat and Clay is like “what spell was that?” And Moog is just like “Spell? This is just a stick!” 😂 I wish there would’ve been a little more page time with our villain. His death in the end seemed less epic than I was expecting. And speaking of epic, I loved how the mercenaries were like rockstars in the book, and there were some pretty fun nods to real bands (Neal the Young…lol)
Mike, I think in the end Larkspur changed her ways because of Ganelon, though it was a little weird because I mean, she was pretty deceitful and cut Clay’s hand off and everything. The group was just like “oh ok cool” when she came back at the end and didn’t seem bothered by it 🤷🏼♀️
All in all this was a fun story and definitely the type of fantasy I can get into I am very interested in checking out the next book. And yes, where can I get an owlbear??

I thought the same thing reading that speech from Lastleaf. He’s definitely our villain, but I understand his anger.
I’ve been having a lot of fun reading this even though some of the descriptions went over my head a little bit. Some of the terms used are ones that seasoned fantasy readers might already know, but I have no clue lol. It’s easy enough to figure out or google though. I’m not gonna lie, before even starting the book I had to look up what a mercenary was, because I didn’t know 😬😂 Fantasy term or not, I didn’t know it.
Anyway, I’m still loving the humor and am glad to see the band is officially back together!
