1095535 Such an explosive ending! Although I know what happens next, I am excited to dive into TORCH, which I might just do right away!
All the deceptions from the characters are fascinating, especially knowing who they turn out to be in the later books.

I understand that many people might prefer a slower pace for their fantasy books, but the story in this case made up for the not-so-prominent world-building. Although I can argue that we know just enough about the world to understand the story and the characters.

I have to admit, though, that the main reason I'm looking forward to books 2 and 3 is Helene's POV and character development.

1095535 The pace has picked up again! I couldn't stop reading after chapter 30 like I planned lol.
I am on the verge of tears every time Cook talks about the resistance =/ It's really the best part about rereading the series after the revelation at the end of book 3! Will go ahead and finish this book tonight!

1095535 A much better section than the previous one! Not much to say, but I'll just leave this conversation between Laia and Cook here; if you've read until Reaper, you get it...

“My mother was the Lioness—”
“Your mother—isn’t—worth your words.” Cook’s voice drops into a snarl. “Never—never listened to anything but her own selfishness. The Lioness .” Her mouth twists around the name. “She’s the reason—the reason—I’m here.”

1095535 This section is a little slower than the previous one, but still a lot happened! Several things happened during the first trial that I wonder if the some of those small details will come into the final book.
I prefer Elias's POV. Really, the only time I enjoyed Laia's was the first time I read the book ^/\^

1095535 On chapter 14 now. Just met the commandant... there are villains that one hopes they can redeem themselves, and then there is the commandant.

1095535 Okay, ten chapters in, and to add on to my previous comment, I'm noticing a lot of small details that I know will come in in the later books! Enjoying this so much already!

1095535 Just started this. I noticed something. In chapter 1, Laia is reading a book about a jinn. If you’ve read the rest of the series, you know the significance of this!

1095535 I agree! The worldbuilding is exceptional, and it keeps expanding and getting better with each book!
The best part about the characters is they're not perfect - one moment I'm loving them, the next I'm mad at them. It's incredible!

I also think Sabaa does a great job with the villains and making us hate them and understanding their motivations at the same time.

I'm glad you decided to join, Salma! It's going to be hard to avoid spoilers, so good luck! ^-^

1095535 Just as the title says. Do you associate any songs or albums with certain books in the series or certain characters? Certain scenes even? (Be mindful of spoilers please and put a spoiler warning if you need to)

I have a huge playlist I created while reading REAPER.
It includes:
-Beautiful Apocalypse by Kamelot
-All I Need by Within Temptation
-A Day For Ghosts by Delain (think Elias during the ending sequence of Reaper)
-Dancing In a Hurricane by Epica
-End of Innocence by Kamelot (Laia in Ember)
-Everglow by Starset (Elias in Torch and Reaper)
-The Gospel of Goro Adachi by The Boxer Rebellion (basically about everyone lol)
-I Feel Immortal by Tarja
-I'll Be Ok by Nothing More
-No End, No Beginning by Poets of the Fall
-Once Upon a Nightmare by Epica (this is the perfect descriptor of MANY scenes throughout the series)
-Resistance by Muse
-Somewhere Only We Know by Keane
-The Sound of Silence by Disturbed
-Tales of the Sands by Myrath
-Where Do We Draw the Lines by Poets of the Fall.

1095535 Hi everyone! Thank you for joining me!
Introduction threads aren't usually my thing, but here we are! Feel free to introduce yourself, tell everyone what your favourite books are, and if you're re-reading the series, reading it for the first time, or somewhere in between.
Also, what's your favourite part about the series, if you've read it?

Let me start!
An Ember In the Ashes became an instant favourite for me since that day I randomly picked it up at the library, not thinking much of it, until I devoured it. The rest is history, haha
My favourite of the series (so far) is REAPER, and hopefully SKY will jump to the top a few months from now. What I love most about the series is how immersive it feels. Whenever I start reading it, it's guaranteed to pull me in, and it's managed to do that every time I re-read any of the books!
