109220 I'm not sure how long this will be on sale, but Myke Cole's first book in the Shadow Ops trilogy is on sale on Kindle for $1.99. Military Fantasy in a modern setting, dubbed X-Men meets Black Hawk Down by Peter V. Brett. If you've been waiting to get into this series, now's the time. All three books are now available:

109220 I've been enjoying this at a leisurely pace, but with Cibola Burn coming out in June, I better finish this and Abaddon's Gate by June. So I picked it up this weekend and made a small push to get to the halfway mark.

I'm surprised I had stopped where I did. The proto monster in the ship is pretty scary in an Alien kind of way, though other than that there wasn't a lot of immediate, grab your attention conflict going on. Bobbie and Ava's POV sections came to a nice twist in the last few pages, so I'm more engaged about their roles. Nice job, Corey.

While this series it tauted for being more realistic, I'm not the kind of reader that enjoys reading all the science details about the spaceship and physics of survival. That could be why I have read so casually, I tend to get bored in those details and put the book down.

So, that's what I'm thinking halfway through. The politics are becoming a little clearer now that Ava has figured out the spy. Props to Corey for making the proto monster such a big threat. Did they really remove every piece from their ship? I'm surprised they are still flying.
Antagonist POV (1 new)

109220 I was on a roll yesterday writing my new novel, but as I look at "Chapter Six" and a bunch of empty space, I'm contemplating adding the point of view of the antagonist. I'm trying to think of a good book where the antagonist's POV was used well. I remember Dragonlance doing this, and the author, Tracy Hickman admitting that it was difficult to stop the antagonist from stealing the show.

Any suggestions for books that have a strong antagonist POV? What did you like about reading the story through their eyes? Were you hoping they would become "Good" in the end, or was it fun simply to see them be "Bad." Did it help to have a side character involved in their POV that you were rooting for to join Good?

109220 I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to repost all the books here, maybe with a smaller sized post, but the link to our new series: http://www.adventuresinscifipublishin... will take you to this week's releases. Any that catch your eye? I beta read for Titus Welch's Pneumadiluvians, and recommend that as a different kind of dystopia. We will have a review and interview up with Scott Lynch, as his third book, The Republic of Thieves is now out. I'm excited for how this new series will allow me to share all the books coming out (traditional and indie) without having a million posts.

ATPT is a unique experience in reading. I am at times in awe of Tori, her character arc, and the far reach between her and happiness, but other times I'm confused or not as interested in what is going on. The halfway point introduced some surprising conflict, leaving me very interested in how it will wrap up, but on a page by page basis, I'm either disinterested or interested about equally. I'm not sure how to pin down why I lose interest. I've mostly kept track of the characters, and like Muir-Smith and Elizabeth as secondary characters. Maybe it's not moving quickly enough? I'm not sure. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

109220 It's been about six weeks since I (Tim Ward) have taken over the show from Shaun. I'm open to any thoughts about how I'm doing so far, things I'm not doing, whatever.
