That's a really good one!
Here's one I found really funny.
"Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience." –Mark Twain

I'm sure you've seen this one, but it is always a favorite, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

"The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug." Mark Twain

My favorite MG author though is JK Rowling. I think she did an unbelievable job of capturing the toils and joys of passing through grade school within the fantasy landscape of Harry Potter. A number of authors have tried to replicate her with fairly high success by I give her credit for being the first to connect with the mainstream.

I haven't read Ann Rinaldi but I admire that she includes notes separating facts from fiction. I once read a historical fiction book but didn't know it was fiction so sounded like an idiot for a month telling people, "did you know..."
My favorite author is Dr. Seuss. I love that he could take complex topics like equality and make them a magically fun story with a lesson at the end (Horton hears a Who). The breadth of his imagination is astounding and he creates an entirely new perspective on life!

Harry Potter should definitely make the list!

Catching Fire was good, but it was too long. I admire the director's diligence in sticking to the book but for me I see a movie for action. It took forever for them to get into the fighting sequences.
Haymitch did come on a lot stronger, which I really liked (he was rather weak in the first).
