106967 Okay Talia asked awhile back for a challenge based on Phase 10, so here is what I came up with. In this challenge you will have to complete all 10 phases,starting at phase 1. You can only go onto the next phase once you complete the one before. You can only work on one phase at a time.

The Phases:
• Phase 1: 2 sets of 3
• Phase 2: 1 set of 3 + 1 run of 4
• Phase 3: 1 set of 4 + 1 run of 4
• Phase 4: 1 run of 7
• Phase 5: 1 run of 8
• Phase 6: 1 run of 9
• Phase 7: 2 sets of 4
• Phase 8: 7 books of one color OR( you can do 7 books each a different color)
• Phase 9: 1 set of 5 + 1 set of 2
• Phase 10: 1 set of 5 + 1 set of 3

Each number stands for a different task.
1. Book title starts with A-M (not including A, An, The)
2. #1,2,3,or 4 in a series
3. Books cover is red,pink,purple,orange,or brown
4. A book recommended by a friend
5. Book title starts with N-Z (not including A, An, or The)
6. Location starts with A-M (state, country OR city (real or fantasy))
7. 400+pages
8. Book cover green,blue,yellow, black,or white
9. Authors first name starts with N-Z
10. #5 or higher in a series
11. Authors first name starts with A-M
12. Location starts with N-Z (State, Country, OR city(real of fantasy))

- A “set” is more than one card of the SAME number. For example in phase 1 you could do 1 “set” of #2, which would mean you could read 3 books that are #1 in a series. Then you could do a “set” of #3 and read a book that is red, pink, and one that is orange.

- A “run” is numbers in a row. For example in phase 2 you have to do one set of three AND 1 run of 4(any four numbers in a row). Your run could be numbers 9,10,11,12, and read a book with an authors’s first name between N-Z, a book that is at least #5 in a series,a book with an author’s name between A-M, and a location that starts with N-Z.
-unlike the original game, you can make your run go from 12 back to 1. for example a run of 4 could go 11,12,1,2.

Each “phase” you have a chance for a wildcard. Roll one Dice if you roll a 4, 5, or 6 you get ONE wild card to use in that phase.You only get to roll for a wildcard ONCE at the beginning of each phase.If you roll a 4,5,or 6 you can use your wildcard for ANY book in that phase. This will work on an honesty system so please play fair. =)

-Once you successfully complete a phase, you go on to the next one, until you have completed all 10 phases.

13x13 Challenge (4 new)
Jun 24, 2013 11:04PM

106967 This year, we thought we’d introduce a new challenge for all of you. The idea is to chose 13 genres/categories and read 13 books for each one. The genres are up to you, but if the idea of trying to read 169 books in a year is overwhelming, don't let that stop you. Choose your 13 genres, then choose the number of books per genre that will work for you. You can always increase your goal as the year progresses :)

When you sign up, please post your genres/categories, as your list might inspire someone else to include a category on their list as well!

106967 It’s spring, and that means it’s time to do some spring cleaning! Yeah, I know … cleaning = ick! But this cleaning project should be a bit more fun: Let’s start cleaning out that TBR list! Kudos to Barb for creating this challenge!

1. Read three books that have been on your TBR list for more than a year.

2. Read two books that you added to your TBR list based on a friend’s recommendation.
These need to be from someone you know (real-life or online), NOT recommendations from book sites or magazines/newspapers, etc.

3. Read three books from your TBR list that you need to help catch up in a series (or two).
The books can be from the same series, or from different series, it's up to you.

4. Read two books from the first page of your Goodreads TBR list (sorted in whatever method you choose).

5. Read two books from the last page of your Goodreads TBR list (sorted in the SAME method that you used for task #4).

6. Read two books from your TBR list that are by authors you’ve never read before.

7. Read two books from your TBR list by your favorite author/s.

8. Go through your Goodreads TBR list and delete any books you’re no longer interested in reading. Let us know how many you deleted!

106967 Many of us grumble about all those vowels in spelling challenges, so here’s a spelling challenge with a twist. When you sign up for the challenge, post the Goodreads links to the titles of five of your favorite books. Spell out those titles – but without the vowels! In their place, however, you will substitute other letters.

Go to www.random.org and use the random number generator to choose a number between 1 and 18. The first number you get will indicate the letter you must substitute for all of the As in your titles. Repeat the process to select the letter you must substitute for the Es, Is, Os and Us in your titles. If you get a letter that you’ve already gotten for another vowel, try again! You’ll need to have a different letter substituting for every vowel in your list. When you've made your substitutions, please repost your books titles with the substituted letters in place of the vowels. See message #4 below for a sample sign-up post :)

Then spell out your book titles in the usual manner, using the first letter of a book’s title (excluding A, An and The), the first letter of the author’s first/last name or the first letter of the first/last name of a major character in the book.

EXAMPLE: You choose The Cat in the Hat as one of your five books. Your first randomly-generated number is a 6, so according to the chart below, all of the As in your title would be replaced with Hs. Your next random number is a 10, so your Es would be replaced with Ms. Your remaining random number is another 6, but since you've already used that, you roll again and get 13, so Is in your title would be replaced with Rs. Your new title would look like this: Thm Cht Rn thm Hht.

If you’d like, when you finish your first round, you can start over again with another list of five book titles – maybe five titles by one of your favorite authors?

1 = B
2 = C
3 = D
4 = F
5 = G
6 = H
7 = J
8 = K
9 = L
10 = M
11 = N
12 = P
13 = R
14 = S
15 = T
16 = V
17 = W
18 = Y

CHALLENGE RULES: :
* Books must be at least 150 pages long.
* For each book you read, please indicate the title, the author and the date you finished reading it. If you’re using a character name, be sure to post the character name along with the title, author and date.
* Books may only be used for one task in this challenge, but cross-challenge posting is encouraged : )
* We provide a link to each participant's initial post so you can find your post to update as often as you'd like. When you complete the challenge, please post your entire list as a new message so we can all congratulate you on a job well done :)

106967 Duration:July 1 - As long as you want

Well it seemed like it was time for another CRAZY challenge in this group, and since we are all readers I figured a crazy challenge with genres seemed like a fun thing to do. =)

Below I have listed the most popular genres,(according to Wikipedia) with many different subgenres. (please note I do not read many of these genres, so I used the internet for my information. IF you see a genre that you like and would like to add more subgenres then what is there, by all means, go for it, but I will not be changing the master list.

So this will work like most Spell out challenges, the only catch is for the genre name ONLY you have to read books that fit that specific genre, all the subgenres can be any books. Spell out everything using first word of titles of books (except A, An, and The) Authors first/last initials, Series names, or first/last initial of main character in book.

Here are the rules:
- Please post a partial list when you sign up so that I have something to link your post to.
- Each book must be at least 150 pages long
- Cross challenging is encouraged, re-reads are fine as long as you are actually re-reading the book not skimming.
- When you finish a task, please make sure you have a finished date beside each book.
- You may update as often as you like, but once you are finished, please post the finished challenge in a new message. We all want to be able to congratulate you on a job well done!
- Most important of all…Have fun!! =)

This is a no deadline challenge so pick as many genres as you like.

106967 Duration: Ongoing, no deadline, sign up at any time

Rules: All formats are acceptable, but must be at least 150 pages in length. Please disregard “a”, “an” and “the” when working with a book title. You may post your list in advance, or post as you go. Changes can be made to your list at any time. Re-reads are allowed as long as you re-read the entire book – no skimming, please.

When signing up for the challenge please remember that “I’m in”, or I’ll post list later” does not work for the sign up. You MUST post at least a partial list. All other posts regarding sign up will be deleted.

It is not necessary to post an update - this is optional. However, we all like to see what everyone else is reading for a challenge, so updates now and then are very helpful. An update is a repost of your original list showing book title/author links along with the dates read.

When you’ve completed a level or the challenge entirely, you MUST repost your original list showing the book title/author links and dates read for each book.

Here’s the scoop: There are four colors – three levels to the challenge:

Level One: Spell-it-Out: Using the first letter of a book’s title or the first/last letter of the author's name, spell out each of the four colors.

Level Two: Scavenger Hunt: Read a book that fits each task listed below for each respective color.

Level Three: Complete both level one and two.

These are the beautiful colors we have to work with, and the tasks:

1. Nothin’ Mousie ‘Bout It – Read a book with the letters MOUSIE found in the title; OR a book with something that sparkles on the cover (jewelry, diamonds, stones, etc); OR a book with an “M” title (title begins with “M”); OR the first book in a series .

2. I’m All Ears – Read a book with a body part found on the cover – preferably ears (this is not the entire body or the torso, but the hand, foot, etc.); OR a book with a blue or purple cover; OR an “I” book; OR the second book of a series.

3. If You Moust, You Moust – Read a book with the word “Must” in the title; OR a book with a predominantly pink cover; OR book # 1 or #5 from a list (your TBR, CIGURL, 1001 Books, or any list of your choice – be sure to post the list you choose); OR the third book of a series.

4. The Color of Minnie – Read a book with a red dress, polka dots, or a mouse on the cover; OR a book with the color “red” in the title; OR an “M” author (author’s first or last name begins with “M”); OR the fourth book in a series.

ETA: If you are doing option three, you may double dip (as Teresa in Ohio refers to it), using the books you read for option 2 (scavenger) for option 3 (spell) as well.

ETA: For "Nothin' Mousie 'Bout It" - the task description for something sparkly pink on the cover has been changed to something that sparkles on the cover (jewelry, diamonds, stones, etc).

Now, as OPI says…"Who wants a Minnie-cure"?
