I am behind too. I feel the same about her. I can't pinpoint what I really dislike about her either...I guess she seems really insincere towards others. She acts like she cares and feels guilty about her actions, but she really doesn't.

Hi! I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to update you about this buddy read. I know it has been a while, so I wanted to ask, are you still interested in doing this buddy read?
I also wanted to mention that there will be a buddy read for this book hosted by a bookstagramer on instagram if you are interested in joining that. It looks like it will only be us buddy reading The Iliad here. There is a much larger buddy read group on instagram. Let me know if you are still interested in buddy reading. If you are, I will post the reading schedule. If you are not, that is fine. Or let me know if you are interested in the instagram buddy read. :)
I agree, I am not a big fan of Anna yet. And how she sided with her brother wasn't cool either. I should have been more specific. I liked her and Dolly's relationship after Anna interacted with Vronsky at the ball. The reason I'm not really liking Anna is because most characters find her perfect or an ideal woman. Her and Dolly's last interaction before she goes back to Peterberg reveals that she is not perfect and has struggles. Just like Dolly.
I have a few more pages until I finish this weeks reading, but did anyone else like the relationship between Anna and Dolly?

He is not passionate at all and likes to live life as easily as possible. Like you, I am not into that kind of attitude. But, the other characters are so full of passion and personality, I think I like slipping into his chapters because it gives me a small break from all of the intensity in the other characters' chapters. I've also noticed how beautiful Levin's chapters are compared to his! All of the quotes that caught my attention were from Levin.
I'm a couple pages into this weeks reading! I finally got to meet Anna!

Awesome! I'll start working out the reading schedule and make the topic soon.
If you have any recommendations for the reading schedule, let me know!
I am going to start the second half of part 1 tonight! I am really excited. I've gone into this book blind. I really like not knowing where the story is going because I don't want to have any certain expectations about the book. So, I am eager to keep going!
I like Oblonsky, too! I like Levin as well, but I have not really gotten attached to his chatacter yet. Oblonsky doesn't seem like a bad guy. I want to learn more about him. He is a great foil to Levin. From what I have noticed, Oblonsky enjoys the easy life and takes pleasure in the little things. He isn't a great dad or husband, but, in some way, he loves/cares for his family. Levin is still a bit hard for me to understand. I know he values country life and he is not close to his brothers. So much of him is consumed by Kitty. I guess that can put readers more "into" the feelings/body of Levin. His world is consumed by Kitty.
Now that it is the end of the week, I wanted to talk more about what we read this week! I am really enjoying this book! All the characters are really interesting. They are all unique and leave an impression. Vronsky and Kitty seem very naive. Vronsky seems to think he discovered the secret to being in a "relationship" without making any serious commitment. And Kitty doesn't seems to not know or understand her own heart. I am super excited to meet Anna and all of the other characters!!
I haven't finished part 1, yet. It is not a hard read, so I am trying to take my time. I'll probably finish it tomorrow. Did this quote stick out to anyone else? It is not a spoiler.
'All the members of that family, especially the women, appeared to him as though wrapped in some mystic poetic veil, and he not only saw no defects in them, but imagined behind that poetic veil the loftiest feelings and every possible perfection.'
I find this line so beautiful. Using poetry to describe the family can give different impressions to the reader depending on their idea and feelings on poetry. I just keep reading the line over and over again.
Levin is my favorite character so far, too.
I have more I want to talk about, but I'll wait until I know we've all finished this weeks reading. :D
I agree with you guys! I was very surprised at how easy the text has been. This book seems so intimidating, but, so far, it has been nice to read. I also agree about the names, though! I think I will write them down.
My book came in the mail today! I'm so excited to get started. My book is translated by Louise and Aylmer Maude.
I bought the Macmillan Collector's Library edition. I will get it in on Thursday. Hopefully it is a good translation!!
Awesome! I knew the book was long, but seeing it broken down makes it seem even longer! I can't wait to get started! :D
My goal this year is to read as many classics that I can this year. I have a BA in English, but I have not read too many classics! I've so many that I want to read. I made a long list of classics to read. I've already read two Shakespeare plays this year, King Lear and Macbeth. I'm currently reading Emma and The Portrait of Dorian Gray. I'll be buddy reading Anna Karenina soon. I hope I can participate in as many buddy reads as possible. If I can just read one classic this year, I want it to be The Iliad! I've been reading it slowly, but I want to restart it again and actually read it all the way through. (If anyone wants to buddy read The Iliad please let me know!)I'm looking forward to this reading year and participating in this group!

Hello! My name is Alyssandra. I live in Texas, US. I am so happy to be apart of this group. I have a BA in English. I love reading, but surprisingly I have not read too many classics. I've made it my goal to read more this year. I'm currently reading 'The Portrait of Dorian Gray'. I have a feeling it is going to be a favorite!
