I'm hoping to finish Mansfield Park and Evelina (by Burney) this month, and I was planning on participating in Claire Fenby's middlemarchalong this month so I'm at least starting that one and I'll see if I can finish it before the end of the month :)
I only managed to finish Northanger Abbey in June because of deadlines. I really enjoyed it though, gave it 5 stars :)
I'm reading Mansfield Park this month for uni, as well as Wuthering Heights. Also, I'm hoping to wrap up Northanger Abbey and Evelina (Frances Burney) this month as well, but that completely depends on how much time I have left because of deadlines hahaha
I read Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, and I absolutely loved it! I do think, though, that I'll need to reread it a couple times before understanding most of the scenes, but on the other hand, that's what's so enjoyable about this book. Apart from that, I read Dr Faustus by Christopher Marlowe for uni this month, and I really liked it. Although, I read it as a comedy instead of a tragedy hahaha. Lastly, I'm reading Emma by Jane Austen right now (because of the adaptation I'm planning on seeing), and I'm about 2/3 in. I'm really loving this one. Even though it's (I believe) Austen's biggest book, it never gets boring for me, so I'm hoping the ending will be just as good as the other Austens I've read :)
I read The Magician's Nephew from the Chronicles of Narnia a little over a year ago, so I'm continuing the series with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe right now.
I really want to start reading Virginia Woolf's work, so I'm going to start with Mrs. Dalloway. Before I watch the movie, I want to have read Little Women, but maybe I'll get to this one in the christmas break already, so then technically I would read it in 2019 still haha.
I also want to reread Pride and Prejudice, and read more of Austen's work, because I've only read Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion so far.
The, I'd also like to read some work by the Brontë sisters, starting with Jane Eyre, I think.
I also want to read Jude the Obscure and Tess of the d'Urbervilles by Hardy.
I've wanted to read A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft for a while now, so I hope I can get to that one as well.
And finally, I would like to continue my reading of Atwood's oeuvre. So far I've read The Handmaid's Tale, The Testaments, Surfacing and The Edible Woman and I loved all of them.
I don't know if I'm going to get to all of these, but I sure am going to try :)
Hi everyone! I'm Kirsten, a 20-year-old English literature (or rather literature in English) student from the Netherlands (even though I'm as Dutch as they get, I really prefer reading in English haha). Up until now I haven't read that many classics, but from the ones I did read, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar and four works by Margaret Atwood that I read (Surfacing, The Edible Woman, The Handmaid's Tale and The Testaments (although I don't think The Testaments could be called a classic)) are probably my favorites.I'm very excited to read more Romantic, Gothic and Modernist classics :)
I would like to start reading Virginia Woolf next year. Any recommendations on which of her works is the best to start off with? :)
