1001988 Haha, really?
Aug 05, 2019 01:40PM

1001988 How are you?
Aug 05, 2019 09:36AM

1001988 You don't have to use a different term. Unless someone else specifically asks you to.

I’m fine. I’d rather people not sugarcoat it.

1001988 I want everyone to understand that the Debate folder is strictly for those who just enjoy a nice debate and not those who want to show others why only there opinions matter.

You don't have to agree. In fact, not agreeing and stating why is the sole purpose!

So if we can't be civil, the debate folder will go away. End of discussion.

1001988 Alright. Milo is correct, this is a debate. If people can't take it as that it will be deleted.

Debates aren't don't thing to get offended about.

1001988 Well it does come back around now.
Aug 04, 2019 07:27PM

1001988 Yeah. And if you did it comes back around to your house anyway. xD

It has a weird route.

1001988 Yeah. They can be hereditary. Which also sucks.

If I ever have children there is a good chance they will have one of the many, many mental disorders my family carries.

1001988 I don't like the term. It makes Payton feel like there is something wrong with her, and she sometimes cries about it.

And to be honest, it makes me feel like there is something wrong with me too.
Aug 04, 2019 07:14PM

1001988 Because we are currently debating this.

What do you think about the term Mental Illness?

1001988 Hmph... Well, doesn't make my opinion of it change.

1001988 I just don't like the term!! I associate illness with something wrong with someone that needs to be cured. Except for.. As of now most mental illnesses have no outright cure.

So basically having mental disorders make us both feel like there is something wrong with us. It’s not fun to lie awake at night wondering what is wrong with you, so I don't like the term.

1001988 Someone I know really well just lost their job for being told they didn’t fit in... Specifically around the time where there was drama surrounding the fact that higher ups in the company being LGBT. She transitioned from the gender her parents assigned her at birth, and is now well asjested as a female.

And they even made her sign a contract of secrecy, telling her that she could choose only two people to discuss it with and everything. So yes. Trangender people are disrespected pretty often and are treated unfairly.

She was disrespected by her supervisor too..

1001988 I just don't think people should be given therapy to try and correct them being transgender. If it isn't interesting with their life, and they don't want to fix it, then I don't see the issue.

If someone finds it an issue and wants to do therapy themselves that’s their choice.

1001988 But... Would people with 6 fingers be disrespected this much?

What about people with red hair and blue eyes? That’s pretty uncommon.

Or people with depression? That’s also considered a mental disorder.

1001988 On top of that, I don't think gender dysphoria should be called a mental illness. In fact, I don't like the term mental illness, and would much like that it be changed to something much more.. Neutral seeming. It makes us feel like something is wrong with people. It just sounds so negative!! I hate it.

I mean, sure sometimes it seems to fit, but I don't like feeling like there is something wrong with me because my body decides I’m in danger around people. Mental illness insinuates that. :/

Mental disorder or condition just seems so much more positive.

1001988 And why does it matter that it is COMMON for gender and sex to match? Does that mean that everyone is expected to fit into a majority?

Because trust me. Our friend group is not normal in the slightest, but should that mean we are treated any differently?

1001988 Sex is biological. Yes.

However, gender is how someone identifies themselves. If they identify themselves as a female, they will be called a female.

But biologically they will be what their sex is set as, unless they perform surgery to change that.
