Glenn Fletcher spent years asking a question nobody had thought to ask about one of the most famous Christmas carols ever written.

"Hark! The HERALD Angels Sing." Herald. That's not just any angel. That's a reporter. A journalist. Someone whose entire existence is built around documenting what is true.
So Glenn wrote his story.

MARK! The Herald Angel follows Mark — a small, meticulous, gloriously grumpy angelic newspaper reporter who is reluctantly assigned to cover the birth of Christ. As we walked around and listened to the Christmas Carols being sung, "Hark! The Herald Angel" was among them. The notion popped into my head in a random moment of levity. What if the song's narrative got one important thing wrong... the Angel's name. A typo in the headline... Instead of some random unnamed angel, it was actually one named Mark, that got overlooked. From there I began researching classes (or choirs) of angels and discovered of the nine angelic choirs, there are none called Heralds... so I created a new choir. I wanted to add some comedic tension to the plot, and thought choirs are often synonyms with singing. So imaging a world full of angels happily singing everyday of their existence seemed awkwardly funny to me if the Heralds did not sing, but instead were the focused reporters capturing the facts for all of the ongoings in the universe. And thus the inspiration of "MARK! The Herald Angel" was born... a fun and heartwarming story of the nativity through the angelic eyes of Heaven.(less)

What Mary Knew — Reflections for Mothers on Holding Sacred Things

MarkTheHerald.com ✦ The Herald Dispatch ✦ Luke 2:19 is one of the shortest and most quietly devastating verses in the entire Christmas narrative. The shepherds have just left. They arrived frantic with wonder, spilling over with an account of angels and heavenly armies and a message about a baby who is the Savior of the world. They shared everything they'd seen and heard. And then they left, going Read more of this blog post »
