[close] Welcome to Panem! Or what used to be North America. Here is the history: Panem consisted of 13 districts. All of the districts were working hard in peace and harmony. But then, they rose up and joined each other in a war against the President and the Capitol (where the President resides). The Capitol won the war, and District 13 was destroyed. Now, in order to punish the districts, every year, each district must sacrifice a male and female (at random) between the ages of 10-17 to participate in The Hunger Games. In the Hunger Games, there is only one victor, but many more battles for supremacy. Also, thanks to this war, there are now peacekeepers, who make sure that all of the districts are in order and following the rules, not planning to attempt to overtake the Capitol once more.
