Bioshock

[close] The year is 1960. You are flying over the Atlantic Ocean in a plane of 150 passengers when disaster strikes. A man has hijacked the plane, and it plummets towards the ocean, killing a majority of the people. You manage to escape the wreckage, fearing that you are condemned to drown in an endless watery grave when you see a structure rising out of the ocean. A lighthouse, if you could call it that. You swim to safety, and find that the massive lighthouse leads you down into an underwater structure where you find an underwater vessel like one you had never seen before. Spherical in shape, and cozy inside with red carpet and leather couches. As you step inside to investigate, the hatch locks and an automated voice tells you to make yourself comfortable and enjoy the scenery as you make your way into the city. Wait, city? The vessel descends into the water, your only window being the porthole on the hatch that had locked you in. It swims through darkness for several minutes, but as the submarine lifts over a rise of coral, you suddenly think that you must have died in that plane crash. A glowing city, resting at the bottom of the ocean. Sea life weaves around the skyscrapers, and billboards are stationed at every turn. But something about it all feels awry. Some of the buildings appear to have been abandoned, left to allow the sea to take over with broken windows, shattered signs, flickering lights. You feel a growing discomfort at the eeriness of it all, but there is no way to turn back. The submarine soon eases into what appears to be some kind of docking station, and for a moment, you are engulfed in darkness. Then, through the porthole, a broken sign flickers to life, the flashing letters spelling: "Welcome to Rapture"
