This group is for books written from 1700-1939*. I created this group because there are so many exciting and classic books written during this time. There is so much to learn about how people lived in the past and in different cultures. Some things are different compared to today but most things are just the same! Please read the rules for more details!

Hello and welcome to The Count of Monte Cristo Read-a-Long Goodreads Group!
Throughout November this year I'm going to be dragging unsuspecting victims into reading this beast of a classic with me, because frankly it's been sitting unread on my shelves for far too long. This group is here for us to discuss anything we might discover during our reading, whether it's the representation of early 19th century France or how good looking we imagine the Count to be. There's no judgment here.
This is also the place where you can ask any questions about the read-a-long itself, but I assure you it's not designed to be difficult. All you have to do is find yourself a copy, in any format or any language, and start reading come November! My hope is that we'll all have a lot of fun reading a classic which, in my experience, looks pretty intimidating!
Those of you on Twitter are also encouraged to update your weekly progress on the Twittosphere with #MonteCristoMonday
There's also a Facebook group here!

ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL!
It's the year 1625 and the kindoms of France and England are ruled by strong monarchs. King Louis XIII (the 13th) rests assured that France is at peace. Protected by his Musketeers, strong valiant men who are no match for the Cardinal's guards, Louis remains an insolent young man and ruler alongside his wife, Queen Anne.
But, with the help of his beautiful young double agent, Milady de Winter, the red robed Cardinal de Richelieu plots behind the King's back, recieving news from England via his top general, The Duke of Buckingham, who is a sly and evil man. As time passes, His Eminence grows ever more powerful...
Will you join France or the King's elite band of sword wielding men? Will you fight for England? Or will you help the Red Robes bring the two countries clashing into war?
