[close] A community of people who want to engage with topics spanning across physics, mathematics, computation, biology, chaos and complexity theory, cognitive sciences (artificial intelligence, neuroscience, psychology), philosophy of science (and other areas at intersectional crossroads) at a more robust level than popular expositions that are intended for a broader audience. Every member ought to have the enthusiasm and will to work through difficult texts (and solving exercises, if needed!) This implies that the selection of books that are more formal in the treatment of their subject matter will be prioritized over those that shy away from complications, but doesn't necessarily exclude anything apriori. On the other hand, we want to pick up those having relevance in addressing fundamental questions rather than digging down the rabbit hole for extremely niche curiosities.

[close] Techno-thrillers explore the ramifications of emerging technology, science, or natural phenomena in a story where your pulse races to thriller intensity at least briefly. The genre tends toward the relatively near-reaching possibilities of sci-fi, and usually includes enough technical detail/explanation to satisfy your inner geek. This is not your classic crime mystery novel. Not a galaxy far, far away. Not a fantasy. Nothing magical. Plausible physics on/near Earth in roughly the near present/future, roughly as we have known it for at least a good part of the book. It can be also be non-fiction, or yes, sometimes it can indeed be rather far-fetched.
