[close] What is a Freethinker? One who forms opinions on the basis of reason independently of authority; especially : one who doubts or denies religious dogma Who are the Springfield Freethinkers? We are a social organization building a supportive community of non-believers, humanists, atheists, agnostics, secularists, and skeptics in a region that is not always conducive to freethought. This is our book club discussion group, as well as the location for our lending library list.

[close] In these gilded halls we shall discuss the presence of the atheistic viewpoint in the written form. Are you a fan of Douglas Adams' scientific view of a possible universe in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? Are you unable to decide between Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion and Christopher Hitchens' God is Not Great? Are you aching to argue that the Hardy boys were secular humanists? Then look no further!

[close] Have you ever felt alone in your thoughts about religion or nonbelief? This is a welcoming community for open, respectful conversation about belief, doubt, and everything in between. Whether you identify as an atheist, are questioning religion, or simply want a space to think and talk freely, you belong here. Feel free to invite anyone to this group!

[close] We will be reading short but dense books and texts from various authors spanning the fields of philosophy, ethics, religion and atheism. Some of the authors include Plato, the apostle Paul, GWF Hegel, Paul Tillich, and Jean-Paul Sartre. There is no set location so we can easily meet at a home, coffee shop, restaurant or park. My goals for this group are to learn from different perspectives that are inspired by a passion for rational thought and personal moral development. I look forward to hearing from you.
