Aberdeen

[close] Our tale begins in an alternate past; a crowded city of whirling lights and colours, of manic street performers,showgirls in night clubs, circuses, freak shows, and loud marketplaces. This is Aberdeen, Scotland, a densely populated urban area in the Vaudevillian era. About 50 miles away is a washed-up old fishing town filled with broken-down houses, pubs, and old drunk sailors, the village of Footdee (pronounced' Fittee; by most.). Since the most recent war ended, the population has been given the chance to boom, then explode completely. Families were already only allowed to have up to two children, but it was still a huge problem. It became so intense that the governor of the county hired the Spring Cleaning Operative Corporation (SCOC- usually just called 'Spring Cleaning') to...tidy up the population. It's that time of the year when the flowers bloom, the birds begin to chirp, babies are born, young love abounds- and Open Season arrives. The oldest ones, incapable of work, were killed off first. Once they were eradicated, the SCOC began to turn their eyes to the other children- the ones whose parents exceeded he two-child rule, or the ones with severe disabilities. Then, they began to take the teenagers that slipped through the cracks. Before the victim is taken, they get a thin, rectangular slip of paper in the mail, marked with SCOC in spidery lettering, and the name of the child to be taken on the back. They are chased down until they are found and immediately killed. It's all a game of hide-and-seek... run, or die. And be quick.

[close] A Book Club based in Aberdeen, Scotland. We meet on the second Monday of every month in the Ferryhill Community Centre at 7:30 pm. The meetings are open to all, you don't have to live in Ferryhill.
