Living comfortably in the heart of America with the people I love. I live an extroverted life, but I'm a genuine introvert. An urban kid, I spent much of my youth running in various neighborhood establishments. There I met many colorful characters and I learned to love them and be fascinated by them. My love of story comes from them. I learned to sit on a bar stool or a kitchen chair or in a pew and hear story. There is no greater honor than to hear someone's story. If you feel that way about the tales I tell...what more could I ask. ...more

What's that?

Okay, I'm joking. I have been plagued with it over the years and I'm finally figuring out what it is. For me.
It means I need to shut off my internal editor.
If you are blocked...now listen closely love...here's what you need to do: write something in the dead opposite direction of where you were going to go. Writer's block can come because we were dedicated to a path and all of a sudden it seems like a brick wall comes down. So turn right or left.

Now, that internal editor will tell you you can't go right or left. Be willing to give up where you thought you had to go, or be willing to take another path to get there.

Writer's block is a temporary lack of flexibility. We stopped writing the possibilities. We got rigid.

So the important thing is that you get the creative flow going so write a new direction. Take the pressure off of yourself that it has to work. Just experiment. Try it out. Tell that inner voice that constantly corrects you to shut-up and just write.

Do something with your hands. Organize something. Then go back and write. Then get up again and do something and go back and write. Small amounts.

It will unblock you.

It's a writing laxative. Too much? Yeah, it is!

Let me know how you do.

Garlic…What? And Writing Part 3

I just read my other two blogs on garlic and writing. I really didn’t think I’d written them. I had to check to make sure I did. I actually decided I didn’t write them. Then I realized I did write them. So here is part 3.

I almost bought a lot of garlic off of Facebook Marketplace today. I mean…a lot of garlic. Like a clove for every book I’ve ever loved. And that is the only correlation I can make

“We didn’t talk about anything. We didn’t need to. He knew I was in the shit…I knew he was drifting toward a war. I let the million knocks on the door of my mind go still and my guilt for feeling comfort with Danny, not take hold. I was with him and for just a few hours I would pretend it was real because that’s how it felt…real.”
Diane Munier, Finding My Thunder

“I wonder how long I’ll have to wait to kiss Easy again. I wonder if he’ll kiss me again tonight. Did he just say every day like he was done for this day, or did he imply there’d be more? He kissed my bracelet and he could have gotten in another one. I mean, I was ready. But I guess it’s like pie. One should be enough unless you’re a glutton.”
Diane Munier, Darnay Road

“He stares at me. He swallows like he’s dry too, but not as dry as me. “Don’t be scared of me,” he says. “I ain’t.” He lets me go then. “I’m not good,” he says. “But I will be good to you.”
Diane Munier, Darnay Road

“Open books, not legs; blow minds, not guys.”
