FrauMiest Any idea if there will be an audiobook of said novella? Would be great …

Justin Call I expect there will be just because I'm such a big proponent of them. If Gollancz doesn't get Peter Kenny to do it (like he's done with the main books), then I'd hire someone else. I'd consider doing it myself since I've got a knack for voices, but since most of the characters are females, I'd probably hire this one out.

FrauMiest I would very much hope that Peter will do it :)

Justin Call Likewise! I love Peter immensely. He's terrific.

FrauMiest That he is

Mara So it will be out in the world sometime this summer, that's good to hear! I hope that one day the novella(s) will be published in hold-it-in-my-hands format, but I'll be happy as a clam to get whatever I can get! Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Justin Call I'm hoping for that, too! My guess (and this is only a guess), is that I'll get some ebooks out between books 1-2, books 2-3, and books 3-4. Then we could combine all of the novellas into one big supplementary novel (probably around 300-450 pages) ... or we'd do something else with it so all the stories get into print. That's a conversation to have with my publishers down the road, but for now you can rest assured that those stories are being told. They just didn't fit into the main narrative since Faith doesn't interact with Annev at all (and she interacts very little with the other main characters in Books 1 and 2). Faith will spend lots of time with a few secondary characters in Book 3, though, which will dovetail her side narrative into the main thread quite nicely.

Mara Fingers crossed that it all works out!

I know that the Demon Cycle series had a couple of novellas that didn't fit in the main narrative, but certainly boosted the main stories. (Messenger's Legacy was actually quite necessary to read before moving on to Skull Throne, though. I was confused about where some of the backstory was, and it turns out it was completely fleshed out in the novella.) Anyway, I mention those novellas because they were published by another publisher, so my ultimate hope is that your novellas will be treated in a similar fashion. I'm ignorant of the publishing world, though...but it's a reader's hope.

I'm also realizing that Faith survived to tell a tale...a wee bit spoilery, but actually quite nice to know that tidbit. I look forward to seeing her side of things!

Justin Call Indeed! I wanted to write Book 2 without any strong references to the novella so that the main narrative would still work without having read it, so hopefully that avoids any of the problems you noted with Messenger's Legacy. In fact, I hadn't even known about the novella and I read that whole series! Very interesting. Part of that is probably because I stick to audiobooks for reading these days, so if it wasn't suggested as the next audiobook in the series, I would have easily skipped it. The same thing happened to me with Brandon Sanderson's Arcanum Unbound, but another fan had mentioned it at a book signing and I hunted it down and purchased it. Hopefully a similar thing won't happen here, though the folks that do read the novella(s) will have a lot more information than those that don't. Nothing too critical in the grand scheme of things, but some things will remain puzzling or cryptic instead of being more fully explained. On the other hand, those that read the novella won't be surprised at all in Book 2 when they see clues that Faith may have survived Chaenbalu's destruction. I'm hoping that I've found a good balance that will keep everyone happy, though. :)

Emmanuel Beiramar Hi, Justin. Did you write the novellas you were talking about or did you devote your time in writing volume 3 ?
