Tom Wilson Where to begin.
1) The timeline was almost impossible. She barely had the time to get everything done.
2) She couldn't have understood how to kill someone and hide the evidence. The police would have found any lose boards. If she had been that smart she could have hid the items virtually anywhere.
3) Capital murder is still capital murder. Our laws say that it is illegal to lure your rapist to his death.
4) Why would she think she could have gotten away with it? He was bigger and stronger.
5) How could she have learned everything about the timing and managed to pull it off without leaving any trace?
I could go on but, having though more about it over the last few months, the idea that she killed him the way it was described in the book is 100% absurd.
I'm not trying to defend a rapist. I'm not even saying he didn't deserve to die. I am saying the events in the book could not have taken place. I know it is fiction but it isn't close to realistic fiction.

IvanOpinion I agree there are several implausible aspects to how she did it. But then again, it was essential to her plans that this should be the case. She was the obvious culprit, so she needed it to seem impossible, otherwise she knew she would be arrested and convicted.

I was really only commenting on your statement that: "I just have no space in my heart or my mind to care about somebody who belongs in jail. It didn't have to end that way." In my view, from her perspective it did have to end that way, as there was no other acceptable option. And the fact she did it does not make her unsympathetic in my heart and mind.

IvanOpinion Perhaps I should add that I don't think it is generally morally (let alone legally) acceptable to lure a rapist to their death, but in this case had I been in the same position I might have felt I had to do the same thing (if I could have pulled it off).
