also, i think Furukura's response to this question might be one of confusion-- why do we expect her to be promoted to a manager position? why is it not enough to just be a convenience store woman?
That is an excellent thought, Emily. I also wondered about this and now I realize I was thinking within the frame of what society expects: that at some point everyone should advance to the next stage in their professional or personal life. But it might not be what she wants.
