Sharon As a debut by a new author, of course Richardson's book is "overshadowed"! That's quite normal in the book world. Moyes is an established author so it's normal for her book to get more arrention, and a movie deal simply from an "elevator pitch". That's how it works. Your brand works for you, and Moyes has a brand. She has no need to "steal" from a debut writer, and it's clear that she too researched her book thoroughly, and produced an entirely different story to Richardson's.
ALl the people crying plagiarism, have no actual idea what plagiarism is. I suggest you look at the Wikipedia entry for Opal Mehta, scroll down the page, and look at what true plagiarism involves. It's a lot more that have a couple of similar incidents!
