Except it would lead to censorship. Once we decide a work of fiction is so appalling that grown-ass adults need to be protected from it, it's a very short jump to "Hey, let's just blacklist this and not sell it so these delicate flowers mightn't accidentally glance at one of the pages." There is a long and inglorious history of fiction censorship to contend with here.
