"He was dressed, as always when he visited her, in his bathrobe, fresh from the shower, his hair glistening wet. 'You see?' he said, sitting at the edge of her bed and taking her hand. 'It's like I've been telling you.' What he wanted her to understand was that what they'd done wasn't so bad. It wasn't like he was re real father. It wasn't as if he was Andy."
"Why would Don pay? He hated Andy. I could see the hatred in his eyes that afternoon."

"How?"
"Simple. I told him I knew."
Suddenly there was no air in the room. "Knew what?"
Her mother just looked at her.
Jacy felt her stomach rise. "How long have you known?"
