Limeminearia They can, but it's also ok for our minds to go "that direction" or to ask if it's an LGBTQAI+ story.

Kelly The author explains in the afterword that he intended for Darius to be questioning his sexuality, and that he ultimately would identify as gay given time. So it seems that the author intended for readers' minds to go in that direction.

Liam Susan, my mind went in that direction because I know how to read. Darius feels like there is "more." I put that word in quotes because that is the word that Darius uses. He says he's not ready to talk about it with his dad, but acknowledges that there is more than just friendship that he feels toward Sohrab. There is no indication in the book that Sohrab feels that way. For Sohrab it may just be a deep friendship and not have 'more' to it. That's what I loved about the book. It completely resisted the need to be a romance while still acknowledging that there could be sexual feelings budding in someone. That was very lovely to read about.

RJ The author has explicitly stated that he views this character as queer. This story really is about family and friendships. But the character is also queer. I wonder if you also consider straight characters as being, 'a sexual thing'?
