Ayny That is what made it implausible. proving the timeline didn't work.

Amanda They did say that if the wind was blowing strong in that direction then the tide would have enabled her to cut at least 20 minutes off of her time and since she knew the water and weather so well, it's not completely implausible, but I agree -- there were a lot of holes in the ending. I was hoping for a flashback where it would be better explained.

Antonella I completely agree with everything you've said. I too had those doubts.

Dan I totally agree with this, those are also my thoughts about how unlikely it is that she would pull this off.

Mona Campbell I agree on the timeline, especially since she had never been to the town she visited with the publisher - how would she know how much time it would take to go back, kill Chase, then return? Even with this I loved the book. One of the best I've read this year.

SanneSanne One thing that kind of jumped out of the text for me was how casually she went to the library in the larger nearby town to get the college books, or fixed the property register and backlogged taxes. As well as hiring the handy-man to fix up the shack. Not a single word in the text about feeling uneasy or nervous about getting that stuff done as it could be expected for somebody with her background. Seems like she had no problem interacting with others and civilization generally in order to get what she needed.

Mikaela Also how did she get Chase to the tower in the first place? In the short time available he just happened to be there or did I miss something?!

message 8: by Amy (new)

Amy Ingalls I agree with you completely. This was so out of character, and there was nothing leading up to this that would lead us to believe that she could board a bus multiple times, in disguise, and calmly lure Chase to that tower.

Lovebooks While overall I really liked this book, you laid out EXACTLY why it fell a little flat for me at the end. During the trial. I kept thinking how absurd the prosecution's case was. I thought it was out of character for Kya to have done it at all but could make the leap given her experience of her father's abuse of her mother and her understanding of females in nature protecting themselves. But for Kya to have had the sophisticated type of planning to carry out the murder this way was way too much of leap for me and seemed completely out of character.
