Forrest Woods Edith Wharton's story is strong on literate description, and she's thankfully a minimist in dialog. From about two pages in, continuing through to the end, I was reminded of the style of Henry James and the rich diction of English writers of that general period, as Wodehouse, Saki, and E. F. Benson. As far as the story went, it may not quite be up there with James' Turn of the Screw (few are!), but it approaches that distinctive literary loft - fully furnished.
