James H While yes, the theme of childhood trauma is there in "A Little Life", much stronger and more confronting than in "Normal People", the other things that make "Normal People" so special are not. "A Little Life" is unrelentingly bleak and distances you from the all-male cast of characters; the time span is much longer, the setting is different. Unlike "Normal People" I found little for myself in "A LIttle Life".

Jackie L Yes, I agree that A Little Life is much stronger, and delves deeper into trauma. For me, it didn’t distance me from the characters, but brought me closer to them, especially Jude. I sometimes forget the names of characters in a novel, but even though I read A Little Life years ago, I still remember Jude. There are many bright spots and treasures to be found in it as well.
