Mary Watson Why? The whole book carefully lays out the events that lead up to the ending which clearly illustrates the behavior of lightning bugs. A female firefly does not siphon gas out of a boat or send deceptive signals to lure a male firefly for other males to kill for her.

Anthony Murphy Kya could barely read yet she can come up with disguises, bus schedules, and the fastest boat on the planet?

Mary Watson Anthony, read the book before leaving inaccurate comments.

Anthony Murphy I actually read the book. What info did I get wrong? Maybe read some of my other comments to see how she committed the murder made no sense.

Mary Watson Looks like you're saying she could barely read in 1969. Maybe you meant earlier than 1969.

Gail Right, she becomes a voracious reader quickly after Tate begins lessons. That Kya's character is incredibly gifted is apparent throughout the plot.

Melanie I have no problem with the fact that Kya killed Tate, I love that she did it by luring him like a firefly. And I don't deny that she had the smarts and the personality to do it. I just hate the fact that she used the trip to Greenville as an alibi, I didn't think that was in character for her at all. I think she would have just done it and used the fact that it needed to be done as her alibi.

Rachel The alibi works well when we know she would have never expected the townspeople to side with her over Chase for any reason.
