It was a shock to me that she did it but if it had been a situation of self defense, she was such a victim of prejudice that no one would have believed her. I’m also shocked that she didn’t destroy the shell necklace rather than bury it.
In my mind, it was self-defense - not murder. He was never going to leave her alone. He would eventually rape her and/or kill her.
I see your point about betrayal, and thank you for it. That's not how it feels to me, but I understand how it can to others.
