Wow, Kate, I knew you loved The Shield Ring, but I had no idea you'd choose it as your single top favorite! :D And that it influenced you in all those ways. :))) That's amazing and makes me so happy. <3 I've recently been cataloguing all the special books that influenced my writing, and reminding myself of what I love about them - and they're so important for writers.

You really, really do need to read other books by Sutcliff, then! (Although you already did.) :) Like Eagle of the Ninth, the first book in the series (TSR is the last, as you must know), or her medieval standalone Knight's Fee (set at the same time as TSR in another part of England). Have you considered reading any of her others?

Aw, yes! It's been pretty important to me. ;) Oh, that's a cool idea! I should do that sometime. ;)

My family actually owns quite a few Rosemary Sutcliff books, but we've been saving them until we study that time period in history. And we're actually coming up to that soon, so... :D
