Barbara I think it's untrue that everyone's employment is a negative experience and although some people are not living the exact life they want, many of us are very happy. Of course, that is not true for everyone. That being said, I think you are so right about the vast majority of people continuing (for the most part) with the kind of life they were indoctrinated into, without seeking change. It is what they know and offers a sense of security, even the negative aspects. Many times, people just don't question it.... This book is so powerful because it takes the idea of going along with (what is to our minds so unthinkable), being born for the purpose of having one's organs given to others until we die, accepting it, and not rebelling or running away. It takes the idea to another level. The comparison many here have made to slavery makes a lot of sense as well.

Peter "Running way" from mainstream life is possible, but uncertain, so most don't do it. You need an income. Maybe this is why so many societies are reluctant to give the unemployed welfare.
