Would you also accuse Mark Twain, who was nearly 60 when he wrote "Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offenses" of not having yet developed his reading tastes yet? Could it be that there were some defects in Cooper's writing, and that some of his detractors have legitimate reasons for criticizing it?
