Katie If the fevered could go in and out, that would make the actions of the troupe even more atrocious than they already were. I also thought that perhaps Candace was fevered, but she didn't seem to like anything enough to experience nostalgia. It was perplexing and kind of sad that a person with so little attachment would be the path to survival. But then again, with the knowledge of her pregnancy, maybe she was one of the few that actually had a reason to focus on the future rather than dwell on the past and loss of the modern world.

Kaylee Bee I felt that at the end Candace was fevered. She was driving in the car, and just staying on the same road. Driving until she ran out of gas. Then she gets out and just keeps walking. At the beginning she talks about her mom would take her in the car and they'd drive just to drive. Going to some neighboring town for some small reason.

We never learn if the fevered think. We're lead to assume not, but maybe they're just lost in daydreams like Candace was at the end. For someone who seemed so clear that she had to escape for the sake of Luna, she didn't seem to worry about making any sort of a plan once she got out.

Ro I interpreted the repetitive nature of her descriptions as a juxtaposition to being in a fevered state, how the system has made everyone subject to a couple of routines that would repeat week in, week out. And perhaps it's more of a biased view but it made me feel that Candace's sympathy for the fevered may come from 1) her pregnancy and 2) that, all along, she recognises that fevered or not, everyone has always been the same, going through the same routine everyday because that is how the system has made us all. She recognises it and though she seemed to have seen this, she rejects the idea that one could simply opt out of the system as Jonathan does, which is why I think she's rather perceptive in that sense.
