Well said but I am not fond of the trend to fabricate twists. Enthralling me is relating to characters and seeing her story written believably. I have read many novels in which it was obvious the fashion to throw in a twist overtook the dénouement making sense. It isn't a weakness to guess a culprit. It must be character A, B, C. The fun revelation is why and how.
I agree. Even though I love an engaging twist, I wouldn't misrepresent the character or force a storyline merely to have a unique or original twist. I let the characters breathe, and the storyline maneuver in different directions to let it unfold naturally.
I am glad, Lori. A revelation without a reasonable backstory feels phoned in. I was often enjoying books at five-star pleasure, until the ending bottomed out. You word yourself so well, I can tell you understand and I enjoy your talented eloquence. Sincerely, Carolyn.
