Troy Segal I thought she was forced into helping Merton after WWII., not during the war

Troy Segal ok, looked at the book again. Presumably since Merton recruited her she was giving him info all along...but during the war Russia & England were on the same side so it probably didn't seem all that big a deal. Just another (male) boss to report to. After the war, when Iron Curtain descended & reports of Stalin's brutality became public, she did try to walk away from him, but he kept roping her back in -- maybe blackmailing her over Dolly's death?--and promising "just one more job." The flamingo episode was supposed to be the last.

Bridget Brooks I agree Troy. She probably thought it was OK to share some information with Merton as he recruited her. I'm not sure that she had much that was useful to share during the war and think that she probably only became useful as a double agent after the war when she provided a safe house.

Ruthie I agree with you Troy. And thank you Robert for your explanation of why Toby helped her escape.
