ME TOO! I am actually going to pose this question on goodreads... haha! They have such a strange relationship.
To me it was more of a control issue.....I never thought it was anything sexual....but Maureen certainly resented Richards relationships.
I just read this book and the only thing I'm confused about is Maureen. I thought maybe she was not his sister but maybe one of his ex's because she put on Vanessa's rings at the end??? Or maybe she was just controlling him like he did his gf/wife.
I didn't think her role in this book meant anything, but realized that she had to something with everything. After reading the book I realized that she was controlling Richard. She wanted to be part of all the wedding planning and what was going on with his life. He learned that trait from her and therefore, he was controlling over his women.
I felt the Maureen connection did need to be explored more fully. We know she cancelled the wedding photographer.. and we know she put on the engagement and wedding rings after Nellie/Vanessa returned them. bleck
OMG!! I thought the same thing. The fact that Vanessa realized it was her who called the photographer to cancel their wedding session was so suspicious and creepy. Lets not mention how placed the wedding bands in her finger.
I agree there was a weird relationship between Maureen and Richard. Definitely on the incestuous side...creepy the way she took the wedding bands from Vanessa and put them on.
I also agree with all of you. I too thought Maureen was Richard's biological mother, weird that she cancelled the photographer and the wedding bands. That was so creepy!
I thought that some of the wording pointed to Maureen having an incestuous love for Richard... like how it described her looking at him and especially when she put on Vanessa's rings at the end for "safe keeping"
Maureen was only 7 or 8 years older than Richard so couldn't possibly be his mother. They did have a very possessive and too close relationship with each other.
