This comment nails it. Compared to Malazan, this is kindergarten fare. Writing wise, Name of the Wind is one of the most straightforward fantasy books I've read in years--it actually was a little bit of a turnoff.

Is it weird that I started reading Malazan at the beginning of 9th grade (which is, really, a couple mouths ago) and is still loving it?
