Margaret Joyce Hi Susan, thanks for taking the time to answer my question. As for my takeaway, I was transfixed, and for some ridiculous reason, guilty for being so interested. Guilt by association, a first for my reading experience! And fear--also a first, as, in walking my dog in late evenings, I've had on 2 occasions, thoughts and images of Bundy's unsuspecting victims cross my mind. The genre is jarring . The educational and the relationship elements in this story are, however, redeeming. I've got a broader understanding now of the importance of pushing the envelope in terms of exploring unfamiliar genres. Take care.

Susan Albert What an interesting takeaway, Margaret. This genre is problematic, seems to me, because many of the books are sensational and excessively violent (to me, anyway). I wonder if it is read by some for the sake of the violence. Which raises a whole other set of questions, doesn't it?

Another classic in the genre that I feel is worth reading/thinking about: In Cold Blood, by Truman Capote. There are also a couple of excellent films. Again, it's the relationship of the author/narrator to his criminal protagonist that interests me.
