I think you missed the point, Amy. The king hates magic, one of his sons has magic and tries to hide this fact from his father. This can be viewed as similar to how a LGBTQ child might feel they need to hide their nature from conservative and biased parents.
If you think I implied you were stupid, I am sorry. When I said you missed the point, I meant you missed the point. Any reading beyond that is simply a figment of your imagination.
As for me coming back to respond 13 months later... I just finished the book and wrote a review today. I just saw the question and the responses today. 13 months ago I probably did not even know this book existed. So for me, it was incredibly timely.
But you're right. The book was not by any stretch the best book I've read this year so I will probably have completely forgotten about it 13 months from now as well.
This isn't a comment (since you told me not to anymore... again) This is just a book I think you would really like. It seems to be right up your alley.

"I’m a mother of 6 adult children, a living spouse to my husband, a caring daughter of two elderly parents, a friend to many, and an attorney who fights for the rights of catastrophically injured people and the families of people who have been killed through no fault of their own."
I stand and applaud. You are such a great person.
