JoAnna It could also be a commentary on avoiding going too far in seeking retribution when political winds change and power settles in liberal hands again. It was interesting that the story focused on this "perfect" black couple getting a "perfect" white male child and then eating him alive. Think of the aftermath of Apartheid in South Africa.

I don't know if that was the author's intention, since this is a progressive anthology, but it's a fascinating way to interpret the story.

Haines Oh my, I had no idea. I can't imagine anyone wanting to abuse a child regardless what color skin they had. How tragic.

Robert Defrank It is rather insightful to see the world through aggrieved liberal eyes. I feel much the same way about the absurdity of The Handmaid's Tale.
