I agree with Julianna. So many sequels these days feel rushed or stale or forced. Much better to follow the Muse than to write "to order," and if your publisher is okay with that, then you are fortunate indeed.
I agree with Julianna! And I had felt that the wood queen found peace in the end rather than being allowed to escape.
I understand completely about not be able to write about something until the moment is right. To me, it’s like an idea has tiptoe up behind you and then knock you into the head. Something will trigger an idea and then off the story goes. I get that way sometimes when I’m drawing or writing poetry. For myself.Poetry is such an emotional way of expressing yourself anyway that a strong impression ofr feelings will charge me up. If only that happened whenever I wanted it to happen. 😊
I'm glad you're not forcing a sequel, but I have to agree that I was so enchanted with Uprooted that I would love to read one if the story does come to you :) Perhaps just more within that universe if not with the same characters (though I would love to peek in on our favourite witch and wizard) You've got me addicted now!
Spinning Silver is stunning - I loved Uprooted, and Spinning Silver is even better. Your characters are amazing! You write people so well. I look forward to whatever you come out with next.
I completely understand your answer, but it will be an utter delight if an Uprooted sequel ever does happen! Thank you for creating such an enchanting world.
Spinning Silver was fantastic as well, both books are on my re-read shelve and I've already re-read Uprooted a couple times. The way you take familiar story lines and set them on their ears is brilliant, I hope you write more in this vein in the future.
I had the pleasure of Uprooted being the first of your books I have read. I found your style fairly unique and I was impressed with the pace of the story and, for reasons I will work out, was surprised by just how much I enjoyed it. Thank you for writing such a wonderful tale. On to spinning Silver.....
I love Uprooted and as much as I would like to know more of what happened to Agnieszka and the Dragon, it is almost as lovely to have their continued story a happy mystery.
Just finished Uprooted and the whole time I felt really excited because I assumed Spinning Silver would be a sequel (due to the similarity of the book cover alone) and I needed more but the ending is so damn epic and complete. It made my heart soar.
A sequel? Hm, an interesting thought. I never saw the "evil" Wood Queen as escaping either. The young witch that Agnieszka meets at the end of the book - she tells her to look her up when she gets older - could be the key to a companion novel though. The wood would no longer be all that evil by then, and may need saving from ... something. This book wrecked my week, I stayed up all night Tuesday listening to it and have yet to catch up on the sleep lost. I am definitely going to be listening to more of your works.
In my opinion, there is so much to work with from Uprooted for a sequel, but it’s YOUR story and if it ended, it’s ended. :) I would absolutely love a sequel, if you even did happen to write one. The leads’ stories don’t feel quite over for me yet, so I would pre-order all the versions of a sequel!
Uprooted is such a lovely tale. No need to have a sequel, it stands firm on its own. That said, of course I don't mind to visit a second time :)
I would love a sequel as well. One of my favorite stories of all time! But I also don't want it until you can write it, so I'll just hope that time comes soon!
Uprooted was amazing! I actually really liked that it had a sex scene in it, gave it some extra flavor. That said, Spinning Silver is my *all time favorite book*. So good as a standalone, never actually felt the need for a sequel, insanely enough (and usually I love epic, long tales). But, of course, if you do come up with an Uprooted sequel, I will definitely read it!
does spinning silver have romance? asking for a friend......
I love uprooted so much though!!!! xxxxxxxxxx
