Same here. I totally thought she was Asian
I also thought she was Asian! Primarily for the references to wuxia and martial arts movies—but that doesn't mean a Caucasian woman couldn't love those as well. It was nice to imagine her as Asian too, since I myself am an Asian American.
As a white girl I used to watch a lot of K-dramas in my early twenties so it is believable. I wasn't one-hundred percent sure about whether Stella was white or Asian in my mind. But I think the longer the read the more I saw her as Caucasian due to hw Hoang described her.
I know many different races are obsessed with K drama. I think I am going to re-read the description of Stella parents again.
I always saw her as Caucasian...well also because I stalked Helen's pinterest boards and saw her inspiration for Stella under her Kiss Quotient board lol
I thought Stella was Asian because when he was trying to identity his client(her) for the first time in the restaurant, he guessed wrongly that another Asian woman was Stella, so I thought he knew his client was Asian. Probably not then.
“Entering the hotel restaurant, he searched the dimly lit tables for a brown-haired, brown-eyed woman wearing glasses. Because he’d gotten through his mail without major incident earlier, he braced himself for the worst now. His gaze skipped over tables occupied by businessmen until he saw a solitary, middle-aged Asian woman micromanaging the waitress on how to make her salad. When she brushed manicured nails through her lightened brown hair, his stomach sank and he began walking toward her. It was going to be a long night.”
He didn’t know anything about Stella othen than the name. He goes through what he knows and differemy scenarios in the shower, before reaching the restaurant. All he knew was that she was called Stella and was waiting for him alone.
@Jenny Faith I’m going with your paragraph. I read this book on Father’s Day last year. And I was at work being pushed to the fcking edge by people. I started this book on my first break and finished it when I came home and it turned the whole day around for me. I’ll never forget that.
