You are reminding me of a translator I talked with once--he focused primarily on translating ancient Chinese verses into English. When I asked what he liked most about it, he said that it allowed him to think in a completely different way from his usual self--going into the Chinese writing was such a change from his own poetry that it felt like he was expanding his brain.

I can definitely see that in all of your genre exploration!

I happen to be reading, presently, a translation of the A.D. 320 Chinese book THE NEI P'IEN OF KO HUNG and (as with any translated text, from the Bible to Hans Christian Andersen) I marvel at how the translator must enter the mind and soul of the author. Musicians have the freedom to interpret; not so these folks!
