As for the Guardian deleting comments, I imagine they were judged offensive ie obscene, and/or misogynistic etc. And no, a contributing writer wouldn't have access to the comments section. They would have a dedicated moderator. I doubt Kathleen Hale has ever set foot in the Guardian offices.
Brilliantly explained, I am late to this debacle, but I thank you for your explanation. GoodReads is my second home and this business is frightening.
