Ashley Gill This is such an interesting thought - that they begin and end with Emma. I thought the prolouge could have easily been Vanessa as well. At the beginning I think the writer wants the reader to believe that Vanessa is nuts and plans to kill Nellie (or something like that, ruin the wedding etc). I for one believed they were two different people until part 2. Vanessa also set out to ruin "Emmas" life, in exchange for her freedom from Richard. She states that "She is oblivious to what I have done to her" ... setting her up to marry a monster basically.

Eliot Yeah that makes more sense now that I have thought about it

Melissa A.S. I thought that was Vanessa talking in the beginning for thinking she has ruined Emma's life because she somewhat planned the affair but didn't think he would propose or that it would go that far just like she confessed to Emma. That is why she made it her mission to stop her from marrying Richard when she didn't know (until the end) that Emma had plans of her own.

Lori M I’m not sure I agree with Ashley o don’t think Vanessa ever thought Richard would ask Emma to marry him. I think she thought he’d have an affair and leave her then get board with Emma but when he didn’t and proposed Vanessa went into panic mode

Anita The prologue is clearly from Vanessa's point of view "...the woman my husband, Richard, left me for..." Since Emma was never married to Richard, she would not have been referring to someone he left her for.

Ashley Gill I agree Anita. And yes. Lori, that’s what I meant.. Vanessa basically set this affair into motion. Not realizing she would also be putting Emma in danger with them falling in love and ending up getting married.... So at the beginning when she said “she is oblivious to what I have done to her” the writer makes you think she’s done crazed lunatic that has done something to harm the new girl, or sabotage the wedding, until you get to the end and realize what is really happening.

Joy The Prologue is Vanessa speaking about Emma- the heart shaped face and the woman her husband left her for. The Epilogue is bookended with Emma stalking Vanessa.

message 8: by Ruthann (new)

Ruthann The prologue is deffo not Emma b/c she said "this is the woman my huz Richard left me for" -- Emma never married Richard.

Teresa I think that she meant Emma because he did leave Vanessa for Emma. Just because they didn't get married, doesn't mean that he didn't leave her for Emma. What I didn't get is why Vanessa went out of her way to help a woman who had an affair with her husband behind her back. I understand that Vanessa helped facilitate the affair but just because everything is in place for you to have an affair with a married man does not mean you have to stoop so low as to do it. Emma was mad at Vanessa for setting her up to have an affair, but Vanessa never MADE her do it, Emma chose to with her own free will. I'm sorry but if you sleep with someone's husband, you can't act all indignant when you find out they were enabling you to do it.
