Joanne I don't think it was an afterthought. I think she wrote it exactly the way she intended. Anna pushed her mother from the balcony and Laura knows it which is why she sent the note. "I Let You Go" had a very similar twist in it. And in both books, I turned back to see what I'd missed. In this case, the twist just came at the end of the book, not the middle.

Kathy Linda, you took the words right out of my mouth! I was totally confused, and thank you everyone for posting your explanations because I was totally confused. Because of the confusing ending I'm giving this book a lower rating. I, too, would've liked to have seen an epilogue, or something explaining it. I hate authors that leave people wondering.
