I felt the same way. I still enjoyed the book, but the ending wasn't as amazing as people made it out to be. Also, I kind of guessed the nature of the ending--bringing the dead back to life and/or the dead coming into the land of the living from another realm. And yes, definitely reminded me of Frankenstein!
I guess it depends on what makes you tick. In my case, fear of death is #1. His ending scared the bejeezus out of me.
